9ct Yellow Gold Toi et Moi Peridot & White Sapphire Ring

Inspired by the beautiful design of ‘Toi et Moi’, which in French romantically translates to ‘You and Me’. This ring symbolises how love and harmony can be expressed through jewellery. This estate ring comprises of two lime green peridots, securely set within a traditional four prong setting. They are surrounded by a harmonious stone set wave, which includes twelve round mixed cut white sapphires. These white sapphires have been expertly set within a bead and bright, white gold setting. The ring is mounted within hallmarked 9ct yellow gold.

Jewellery Odyssey:

The ‘Toi Et Moi’ design can date back to 1796, when Josephine de Beauharnais was gifted a ring from her husband Napoleon Bonaparte. Other famous people who have worn the same design are: Jackie Kennedy, Queen Margrethe II, Emily Ratajkowski, Ariana Grande and Megan Fox.

Gem Lore:

Peridot - derives from the Arabic word ‘faridat’, which translates to ‘gem’. Peridot was first discovered on Topazions Island in the Red Sea, 300BC. Now, known as the Zabargad Island in Egypt or St John’s Island. Peridot has since become the national gemstone of Egypt and it is perceived, that many of Cleopatra’s mysterious jewels were adorned with Peridots, rather than Emeralds. It has been said that it was Cleopatra’s favoured gemstone and regarded by the Egyptians as ‘the gem of the sun'. Peridot is thought to symbolise compassion and harmony.

White Sapphires - mainly when people hear the word Sapphire, they immediately think of the colour blue. However, some maybe surprised to know that Sapphire, can come in an array of hues: orange, yellow, white, green, pink and purple. The ancient greeks discovered White Sapphires on the island of Naxos and associated the gem with Apollo, the god of light and sun.

Please note, that whilst ring sizes (depending on the setting and style of ring) can safely and easily be sized up or down, one to four sizes. Rings were generally made to the scale of their current size. Requesting a ring size a lot smaller in size then the current size, can make the bottom band of the ring become oval in shape. When making rings larger in size, our highly skilled workshop will seamlessly add a piece of metal, into the bottom of the ring. If a size is requested that will impede the structural durability of the ring, than depending on the setting and style, alternative options such as: half shank or soldered beads, can be suggested.

Jewellery Care Precautions:

Avoid direct contact with: perfume, lotions, skincare, hairspray / other chemicals. Remove, your jewellery: when showering, swimming (as both chlorine and saltwater will react with metals), washing your hands / using hand sanitisers, before going to bed or when participating in physical activities (going to the gym, exercising, gardening, housework etc….).

Beware, metals may tarnish over time due to oxygen contact and natural body oils. Prevent items from being exposed to moisture and direct sunlight, for long periods. Store jewellery in a dry place away from humidity, in a pouch/jewellery box and keep each piece separated from each other. Care, for your jewellery by cleaning with a soft dry cloth.

Yellow Gold:

Gold as an element, in its purest form will not tarnish, but gold used in jewellery has been alloyed with other metals, to increase durability. These metals have properties that when in contact with oxygen, chemicals, oils or other substances - will result in a surface tarnish or damage and corrosion. Even the pH level of you skin and the natural oils it produces, can tarnish your gold jewellery.

To prevent your gold jewellery from tarnishing or even disintegrating, avoid exposure to household chemicals, bleaches, toothpaste, baking soda and other cleaning abrasives. Wearing jewellery in places where perfumes, hairsprays, body lotions have been applied on your body, will increase tarnishing. Wear your jewellery after the products have been applied. Peridot, Olivine:

Hardness: 6.5 | Toughness: Fair to Poor | Stability: Fair

Extreme Caution, Avoid: Sudden Impact (pressure, knocks), Cosmetics (hair sprays, lotions, perfumes, make-up), Chemicals (acids, detergents, solvents, nail polish remover), Extreme Temperature Change (thermal shock), Jewellery Cleaners (ultrasonic, steam cleaners).

Gemmological Observation: Avoid wearing whilst doing anything that can cause abrasions or sustaining any knocks. Avoid contact with mild acidic substances as even these can cause damage.

Fancy Sapphire, Corundum:

Hardness: 9 | Toughness: Excellent | Stability: Very Good

Low Caution: A very durable gemstone, generally it is safe to use in; Jewellery Cleaners (Dips, Ultrasonic, Steam Cleaners).

Gemmological Observation: Corundums are a very durable gemstone. However, if lead-glass filled or heavily fractured, you will need to avoid: Chemicals (acids, detergents), Direct Heat, Jewellery Cleaners (ultrasonic, steam cleaners).
